Are you confused and frustrated, wondering why every mealtime is so hard?
Feeling judged or misunderstood by your family who tells you to parent better?
Do the doctors keep telling you that it’s just a phase your child will grow out of?
Does your intuition tell you that your child’s eating struggles go beyond “picky eating”?
You want to help your child but feel unsure and helpless about how to meet their needs?
You’re not alone, and you may be dealing with something called ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder).
Hi, I’m Chong — welcome!
I’m a licensed psychotherapist and a Korean-American mom to a tween who is diagnosed with ARFID.
Our family has been navigating this journey for nearly a decade now. And while we’re still in it, we’ve learned a lot — mostly through trials, errors, and the deep emotional work that ARFID demands of a family. One thing I’ve come to realize is just how often this diagnosis is missed or misunderstood, and how powerful it is to find a community that truly gets it.
I created this workshop to bring more awareness to ARFID, especially within Asian American families, where conversations around mental health and parenting are often shaped by stigma, silence, and unrealistic expectations. These cultural dynamics can make it incredibly hard to seek out the information and support that’s so needed.
In this one-hour workshop, you’ll get a clear and compassionate overview of ARFID, including what it is (and what it’s not), why it often flies under the radar (even with professionals), how Asian cultural expectations can complicate the picture, and how you can begin supporting and advocating for your child with greater clarity and confidence.
Along the way, I’ll share pieces of my own story, both the setbacks and the small wins, and the unexpected ways this journey has strengthened the connection between my daughter and me.
What you’ll get in this free 1-hour workshop:
DSM-5 definition of ARFID
Differences between normal picky-eating and ARFID
Common misconceptions and their negative impact on parents & children
Intersectionality of cultural nuances & challenges
Common symptoms and red flags for ARFID and its subtypes
Practical strategies for navigating ARFID at home, with family, and in public/social settings
